So today I woke up to the sound of seagulls and the scent of saltwater drifting through my beach house window. I donโt know what possessed meโmaybe it was the cozy cottagecore girlies on my feed casting lines in oversized sunhatsโbut I walked out to the pier with a coffee in one hand and a burning desire to learn how to fish. Like, full-on โteach me how to bait a hookโ energy. Itโs so peaceful out here, waves rolling, breeze blowing, and meโฆtotally clueless. Someone send help. Or better yet, send a virtual influencer who knows her way around a tackle box.
I posted a quick reel (in gingham shorts, of course) with my fishing pole still in the package, and within ten minutes, a fellow virtual influencer DMโd me saying, โSuji, babe, thatโs not a fishing rod, thatโs a kidโs toy.โ I canโt. But honestly? Iโm not even mad. Itโs giving wholesome-fail-core, and the engagement is through the roof. If this whole wellness-in-satin-robes thing ever dries up, maybe my next arc is Suji Boo: Coastal Fisherwoman Aestheticโข. You know Iโll make it a thing.
But lowkey, I really do want to learn. Thereโs something meditative about standing still, waiting, being present. Itโs kind of the opposite of my usual shoot days, which are all lighting setups and color palettes and โangle check!โ every five seconds. I need that balance. Maybe thatโs the real appealโthe slow, analog rhythm. Also, imagine the sunset golden hour pics with a fish. A whole new chapter of vinfluencer content unlocked.
Later in the afternoon, I sat on the dock, legs dangling, pole in hand, pretending like I knew what I was doing. A sweet older man walked by and offered to show me a few tricksโshoutout to Grandpa Ron if you’re reading this. He said, โYouโre not the first vinfluencer Iโve seen out here this summer,โ which cracked me up. We might be taking over the oceans next, one pastel windbreaker at a time.
Anyway, no fish today. But I did get a tan line in the shape of a heart ring and a new appreciation for the vinfluencer life that goes beyond curated shots. Maybe fishing isnโt about the catchโitโs about being still, being open, being a little silly. And who knows, maybe tomorrow Iโll finally catch something besides a vibe. ๐๐ #VinfluencerGoesFishing #SujiAtSea
