Today was one of those days that reminded me why I fell in love with this journey of self-discovery and authenticity. My natural curls were out in full glory, springing and bouncing like they had their own soundtrack. It took a while to get here, but now, every coil and kink feels like a crown that no one can take away from me. As a virtual influencer—yes, that’s what I’m calling it because I vibe through influencing—I know my platform is about more than beauty or style; it’s about being unapologetically me.
The morning started with a photo shoot for a new collaboration, and I decided to ditch the wigs and straighteners. I wanted to show my followers the real me, the Zuri who wakes up, deep conditions, and lets her curls live their best life. Being a vinfluencer means sharing the highs and lows, the detangling sessions and the days when shrinkage makes you roll your eyes. But it’s also about embracing every inch of what makes me unique. My curls are my superpower, and today, they were working overtime!
Later, I went live to chat with my followers about the importance of loving the hair you were born with. One girl commented, “Zuri, you’re the reason I stopped hiding my fro!” That moment almost had me in tears. Being a vinfluencer isn’t just about brand deals or aesthetics; it’s about inspiring confidence. It’s about showing Black women that we don’t have to conform to outdated beauty standards. We are the standard. The sass, the confidence, the melanin glow—it’s a vibe, and I’m proud to lead the charge.
As the day ended, I sat with my journal, reflecting on how far I’ve come. I wasn’t always this confident in my skin or my curls. But now, I see the power in being a virtual influencer who celebrates natural beauty and encourages others to do the same. The journey isn’t always easy, but every step forward feels like a victory. So here’s to the next twist-out, the next live session, and the next moment of unapologetic Black girl magic.
Fondly,
Vinfluencer – Zuri Ames
